How to get $4,725.00 in free money for college by doing community service
Did you know being a member of a service organization and simply doing good things to benefit your community could help you to pay your college tuition and expenses? If you enjoy helping others, this might just be the opportunity you have been looking for!
It’s called Americorps. Since 1993, more than 540,000 Americans have served with this great organization. Not only do you get to help other people, but you get paid and receive educational benefits as well. Sound like a great deal!
They tutor elementary age children in reading, are involved in community development and outreach, disaster relief, economic development, elder care, public safety, neighborhood revitalization and tons more!
For working all week and attending special classes, you will receive a stipend and at the end of your service term, you will receive a grant voucher of approximately $4,725 to pay for college. This grant can be used for current college expenses. You may serve as many as two terms in the basic program.
There are other programs within Americorps for people who already have more education and experience. These provide similar benefits as well for those who may want to return to school.
Americorps has an application process and annual deadlines, so you’ll want to act fast. Applicants must meet certain criteria, so not everyone will qualify. Unfortunately, they are not located in all areas.
It simply depends on whether or not there was a need for placement and grant money available. So, if your area does not have a branch, you might consider relocating, if you feel this is the right avenue for you to take.
If you don’t think relocating is for you, but you still want to do some services work, hopefully your neurons are spinning in high gear and thinking of who you could contact in your area to see if other organizations offer similar educational benefits for your commitment to service.
